1200x2400 mm Tiles (4x8 ft Slabs): Uses, Coverage and Tips
1200x2400 mm (4x8 ft) slab tiles cover walls, floors and counters with almost no joints. Coverage per slab, tiles per 100 sq ft and handling tips.

1200x2400 mm is a true slab size, about 4x8 ft. One slab can cover a wall from floor to near ceiling height in many rooms, and it gives the closest tile equivalent to a natural marble or stone slab with very few joints.
Size in feet and where it is used
1200 x 2400 mm is about 4 x 8 ft (slightly under on both sides, as 4 ft is about 1219 mm). It is typically used for:
- Feature walls in living rooms, behind the TV or sofa
- Floors in large halls, villas and showrooms
- Bathroom walls with almost no joints
- Kitchen counters, islands and tabletops, in some ranges
Coverage per tile
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 1200 x 2400 mm (about 4 x 8 ft) |
| Area per tile | about 31.00 sq ft |
| Tiles per 100 sq ft (before wastage) | about 4 (3.23 exactly) |
The working: 1200 x 2400 = 2,880,000 sq mm, divided by 92,903 sq mm per sq ft, gives 31.00 sq ft. With slabs, simple area maths is only a starting point. Plan the actual layout on paper, because one wrong cut can waste a whole slab. Ask us to look at your drawing, and use the tile calculator for a first estimate.

Tile types you usually find in this size
- Large format slab tiles, usually glazed porcelain or vitrified
- Marble-finish designs, often in bookmatch pairs
- High gloss, satin and matt finishes
- Stone, onyx and concrete looks in some ranges
Laying and handling tips
- Slabs need special handling: suction lifters, A-frame stands and several people. Never carry one flat.
- Check access first. Gates, staircase turns, lifts and doorways decide whether a 2.4 m slab can reach the room.
- The wall or floor must be very flat, with full adhesive coverage on both surfaces.
- Use an experienced slab installer, and ask how they will cut openings for switches and taps.
Our large format tiles pros and cons guide covers the trade-offs.
